What Is Redberry Farm?
Nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains on Geelhoutboom Road in Blanco, just 4km from George Airport, Redberry Farm is one of the Garden Route’s most loved family destinations – and has been since the year 2000.
What started as a simple commercial strawberry farm, founded by Dave Cruse and Mark Miller on the site of an old dairy farm, has grown over two decades into something genuinely special. Today, Redberry Farm is equal parts working farm, family entertainment venue, foodie destination, and a tourist landmark attraction – home to the largest permanent hedge maze in the Southern Hemisphere and a Giant Strawberry you can climb.
But here’s the thing that surprises most first-time visitors: there’s no entrance fee. You walk in, you breathe in the fresh farm air, you take in the view of the Outeniqua Mountains stretching across the horizon, and you pay only for what you choose to do. For families, that’s a rare and wonderful thing.

Please note: the farm is closed on Sundays.
The farm is open year-round – rain or shine, peak season or off-season. Strawberries are available throughout the year, which is one of the things that makes Redberry Farm genuinely special. The best time for peak strawberry picking is between August and January, but no visit ever comes up empty-handed.
Pro tip: Arrive before 11 am. The farm is at its most magical in the morning – the light is beautiful, the berries are freshest, and you’ll have the pick of the rows before the weekend crowds arrive.
No Entrance Fee - Here's How Pricing Works
There is no entrance fee at Redberry Farm. You simply arrive, explore the grounds, enjoy the views, and choose which activities you’d like to do. Each activity is individually priced and purchased at the Farm Stall on arrival.
This pay-as-you-play approach makes Redberry Farm genuinely flexible – a couple looking for a coffee and a quiet wander through the strawberry fields can do that. A family with three kids who want to do everything? They can do that too.

Pick Your Own Strawberries
This is where it all began, and it remains the heart of the Redberry Farm experience.
Choose your container at the Farm Stall, head out into the rows and rows of strawberry plants and pick to your heart’s content. There’s something deeply satisfying about finding a perfectly ripe, bright red strawberry hiding under the leaves – and something even better about eating it warm from the sun, right there in the field.
The farm grows over five different varieties of strawberries each year. Over 400 tons of fruit are harvested annually, packed and distributed across South Africa and to the Middle East.
The sweetest strawberry, they’ll tell you, is bright red, eaten fresh just after being picked at room temperature. We believe them.
The Hedge Maze - Largest Permanent Hedge Maze in the Southern Hemisphere
This is Redberry Farm’s crown jewel, and it earns every superlative.
The Redberry Farm Hedge Maze covers over 10km of pathways winding through 30,000 Syzygium Paniculatum plants. It was designed by owner Mark Miller and took three years to grow before it opened to the public in 2013. It has since been recognised as one of the most remarkable mazes in the world.
But the maze isn’t just about getting lost – it’s a quest. Hidden inside the labyrinth are seven strawberry stations. At each station, visitors stamp their maze card with a unique symbol. Find all seven stations, make it back to the exit, and present your stamped card to claim your reward.
Allow between one and two hours to complete it – longer if your sense of direction is, shall we say, adventurous. Perfect for: families, couples, corporate team building, children’s parties, competitive types who refuse to admit they’re lost.
The Giant Strawberry
Standing tall at the heart of the farm, the Giant Strawberry is one of the most photographed landmarks on the Garden Route – and the story behind it is worth knowing.
Owner Mark Miller wanted to add something truly one-of-a-kind to the farm. Inspiration struck when he and his wife Janelle visited the southernmost point of Africa on a cold, rainy day and were astonished to find tourists happily queuing in the miserable weather just to photograph a lighthouse. He realised that an iconic, unique landmark could draw visitors regardless of conditions – and the Giant Strawberry was born.
The Redberry Express - Miniature Train Ride
All aboard the Redberry Express – a miniature railway with 800 metres of track that winds through the strawberry fields, through a section of the maze, and into a dark tunnel.
It’s a gentle, joyful ride that delights kids and adults in equal measure. For little ones who aren’t quite ready for the maze, or grandparents who prefer to explore from a seat, the train is perfect. The route through the fields and tunnel provides a completely different perspective on the farm.
Pony Rides
Redberry Farm’s resident ponies are gentle, friendly, and patient – perfect companions for young riders getting their first taste of the saddle.
Children can enjoy a trot around the paddock under supervision in a safe, relaxed environment.
Bumper Boats & Bubble Ball on the Dam
For something a little more exhilarating – head to the dam.
The motorised bumper boats turn the dam into a battleground of laughter.
The bubble balls are exactly what they sound like – giant inflatable balls that children climb inside and then run across the surface of the water. It’s spectacular, slightly chaotic, and absolutely hilarious to watch.
Pedal & Electric Go-Carts
Race family members and friends around the go-cart track. A simple, endlessly entertaining activity that kids return to again and again. Competitive parents are welcome too.
The Outdoor Playground
Large, well-equipped playgrounds sit on the manicured lawn overlooking the Outeniqua Mountains. It includes slides, jungle gyms, tyre swings, climbing apparatus, monkey bars, rocking horses, a seesaw, and balance beams.
It’s the kind of playground that parents appreciate as much as kids -partly because it’s brilliant, and partly because the bench seating alongside it overlooks one of the most beautiful mountain views in the Garden Route. Bring a coffee from the Red Shed and settle in.
Where to Eat at Redberry Farm
This is one of the most underappreciated parts of the Redberry Farm experience. There are multiple eating options on the farm, each with its own personality.
The Red Shed Coffee & Berry Bar
A vibey, rustic coffee bar serving berry beverages, coffees, treats, and fresh berry drinks. Exclusive farm-style décor, a warm fireplace in winter, and a menu built around the farm’s fresh produce. This is where parents gravitate while kids are on the playground.
The Tea Garden
A classic garden restaurant serving breakfasts, light lunches, and sweet treats – all with a strawberry-inspired menu. Wooden benches on the lawn, with the Outeniqua Mountains as your backdrop. Simple, beautiful, and delicious.
The Noshery - Wood-Fired Pizza
Artisan wood-fired pizza with a farm-fresh twist. A firm favourite with families who have worked up an appetite after a full morning of activities.
Framboos - Handcrafted Ice Cream & Gelato
Handcrafted ice cream and gelato made with fresh berries. Also serves decadent waffles. The perfect way to end your day at Redberry Farm – and almost impossible to walk past without stopping.
Bounty Eatery
Gourmet farm-style food with a contemporary twist, including options for vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets. A thoughtfully designed menu that ensures nobody in the family goes home hungry.
Boplaas Whisky & Wine Experience
For the grown-ups – a local whisky and wine tasting experience on the farm. A lovely way to round off the day while the children burn the last of their energy on the playground.
The Farm Stall
Before you leave, make time for the Farm Stall – a strawberry lover’s paradise.
Shelves are lined with strawberry jams, syrups, salad splash, and a wide range of take-home preserves and gifts. Fresh berry punnets are available at excellent prices. It’s the kind of shop that’s genuinely difficult to leave empty-handed.
This is also where you purchase your activity tickets on arrival.
The Cottage - Stay Overnight
Can’t bear to leave? You don’t have to.
Redberry Farm offers a beautiful self-catering cottage that sleeps four, with two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and dining area, a private garden with braai area, and views of the Outeniqua Mountains. The farm is perfectly positioned to explore the wider Garden Route – Outeniqua Pass, Victoria Bay, and Wilderness are all within easy reach.

Practical Tips Before You Visit
- Arrive early and give yourself enough time to truly experience the entire farm. Morning is the best time on the farm – cooler, quieter, and the strawberries are at their peak freshness.
- Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be walking on grass, gravel, and farm paths for most of the day. Leave the heels at home.
- Bring sunscreen. The farm is largely outdoors with limited shade outside the restaurant areas. The Garden Route sun is stronger than it looks.
- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet. If you’re planning on bumper boats or bubble ball, pack a change of clothes – or just lean into it.
- No booking required – just arrive and purchase tickets at the Farm Stall. For group or school visits, you must book in advance.
- No pets or outside food are permitted on the farm.
- Budget for a half-day minimum. Most families find three to five hours passes without noticing. There is genuinely more to do here than you expect

The honest answer: everyone.
Toddlers love the ponies, the playground, and the train. Primary school children lose their minds in the maze and on the bubble balls. Teenagers – once they’ve been dragged away from their phones – inevitably end up soaking each other on the bumper boats and declaring it the best day they’ve had in months.
