The land that Redberry Farm is built upon has a rich history. Redberry Farm was established in 2001 by Dave Cruse and Mark Miller who purchased the land from a dairy farm. Slowly more land was acquired and the strawberry fields were extended. The old Denny Mushroom packhouse was purchased and converted to process strawberries. The Farm Stall started off using the original dairy building and the indoor seated area, the Shed, used to be the holding pen for the cows. There is a 120 year old cottage on the farm that was built by C.J. Langenhoven’s family, who originally lived in it. A number of the Langenhoven family graves have been preserved on the premises.
In 2000 all of the trees were planted and the garden was landscaped transforming the Kikuyu pastures into beautiful lawns and gardens.
These days, Redberry Farm is a commercial supplier of strawberries as well as a tourism destination. Over 400 tons of strawberries are produced each year and supplied to stores across the country. Strawberry jams, strawberry liqueurs and other exclusive strawberry products are produced on the farm and are available for purchase at the farm stall.
The farm has become a major tourism destination for the George area due to the various activities offered and the magnificent outdoor ambience.
